Job Problem: How has Jesus helped you
Here in the UK job issues aren’t all that different than what I’m hearing from others. Finding the right balance between work and other areas of life isn’t easy. Some of my friends spend an hour a day commuting into work in London and elsewhere. What I see in the life of Jesus is that knew when to work and when to play. He knew when to laugh and when to storm the template. He knew when to embrace and when to confront. Jesus always was prepared for what was needed. I believe this was because he was in tune with the Holy Spirit. We all have our limitations but the Holy Spirit doesn’t. He is able to guide us and help us know how to respond to all the challenges of life. I believe that the best strategy for one’s professional life is to learn to listen carefully to what the Holy Spirit is saying. This allows us to operate at an entirely different level of effectiveness. Instead of us relying upon our own skills, knowledge and wisdom, he position ourselves to allow God to give us what we need in any situation. Just some thoughts to consider. Cheers, Andrew.

Great thoughts everyone. I’ve also had my ups and downs in my career. I manage a graphic design company and that involves working with clients and managing a team of creative people. It’s been my experience that one of the most effective strategies in your career development is to understand yourself well. Take the time to learn about personalities, management principles, team dynamics and how all of that fits your styles. Jesus demonstrated that he understood people well. When you read about his interactions with his disciples, it’s evident that he did his homework in understanding what motivates people and how to help shape people’s strengths. One thing I do is go to a personal development conference once a year plus I have a personal coach who helps me refine my professional and personal skills. It’s made a huge difference in my life.

Job Problem: How has Jesus helped you
As someone in her late twenties, I don’t have tons of experience in the job market but I have learned something from studying the teachings of Jesus. I got laid off at a job I totally liked. I was down for months after. I had a hard time dealing with the way they treated me after working there for a couple of years. The reason they laid me off was because I wasn’t willing to relocate to another state. I have friends and family here in Pennsylvania and my friendships meant more to me than my job. I had to decide whether I was willing to change jobs and maybe even have a negative report in my resume contact list to prioritize my friends and family. I prayed about and talked to my pastor and several friends. I decided to put the people I love first and I have no regrets. As it turns out, I got a better job that pays more money and is a better place to work. It can be easy to get all uptight about your job and career and feel like if you make a mistake it is going to cost you for a long time. But if you ask God for wisdom and trust in him taking care of your needs, you have nothing to worry about. Life is too short to be worried about things beyond your control. I hope others join in on the conversation because I value what others have shared here.

Job Problem: How has Jesus helped you
Hey, I wanted to say that I went through a period in my life where I was unemployed and wondered if I would ever get a decent job that I could enjoy and would pay well. I’ve gone through seasons of depression because I felt like I didn’t have any valuable skills. But, I’ve come to discover that God is faithful to me. It isn’t all on my shoulders. I screw up and don’t get my act together, everything isn’t going to collapse in on me. Rather, I’ve come to realize that it’s God’s good pleasure to meet my needs.

Jesus is given the title “faithful and true” in the Bible for a reason. He never fails or falls short. I’ve made him my savor and Lord and now he’s the one who provides for me. Granted, I still have to work and take care of my responsibilities. But, even in the times when I’m struggling to do my part, I can call out to him and ask for help and he comes through for me. So, I’ve learned to just rest in knowing that although my job and career are uncertain and the times in which we live are filled with all kinds of pressures and difficulties, God is still God and I’m not and all I have to do is trust in him and ask for help and be patient for him to work everything out in his perfect timing.
