Out of seemingly little, plenty
The multitude had been with Jesus for three days, and fasting, while he healed the sick and injured. That he was able to make seven loaves and a few small fish sufficient to feed four thousand, shows the love of God and that believers shall not want. Why did Jesus repeat this miracle, here feeding the 4000, after previously feeding the 5000?
Maybe what matters is that that miracle can be repeated anytime no matter hoe few loaves. They number amounts to 9000 and then it grows if you think of all the conversions mentioned in the Letters to the Philippians etc and all the ones that will follow in history. No matter the number of those present in the congragation, Jesus will feed them all throught the centuries with one loaf: his Body. These 4000, including lame, blind and others who needed Jesus` healing, had been with Him 3 days without food - these were faithful followers and Jesus had compassion on them, that they might not be harmed on their way home because of the weakness of hunger. b/c he cared about the people who belived in him and came to him and followed him and he wanted to help them by feeding them. It shows how great his love is. By: Lesa Braddock - May 08, 2007 - Public Category: Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand
Jesus departed there,
and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and
sat there. Great
multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed,
and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,
so that the multitude
wondered when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and
blind seeing--and they glorified the God of Israel.
Jesus summoned his
disciples and said, "I have compassion on the
multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing
to eat. I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the
way." The disciples said to
him, "Where should we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to
satisfy so great a multitude?"
Jesus said to them,
"How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."
He commanded the
multitude to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves and
the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and
the disciples to the multitudes. They all ate, and were filled.
They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.
Those who ate were four
thousand men, besides women and children. Then he sent away the
multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.
