It is not clear what Pilate understood about the kingship of Jesus (John 18:33,18:36,18:37),but certainly Pilate speaks of Jesus as king of Jews(John 19:14,19:15,19:19,19:21-22).Pilate seems to have sensed much more than he actually understood. What does it mean to say that Jesus is the King of the Jews ? Jesus not only wants to be the king of the Jews, but the King of every nation, and city, and family. And that begins for you when you submit to him as your King. Jesus was born & Jesus came into the world because...
he came to give evidence `in the court of life` of persons and things that are absolute truth in both the earth and heaven. ''John 18'' By: Chris Peacock - December 05, 2006 - Public Category: Jesus with the Political Leader - Roman Governor, Pilate
Non-Fighting = Kingdom of Heaven. This might be a corrent interpretation of John 18, though the statement My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews. I think the correct interpretation is to look at this context and say Non-Fighting So Jesus Would Be Free To Be Handed Over To His Enemies = Kingdom of Heaven! Gosh! What does `of the truth` mean in Everone who is of the truth hears my voice in John 18?
Jesus refered to his servants in John 18, but there is no mention of servants in the Bible. However, there is lots written about him having disciples and these are seen very much as religious students. But Jesus claims that his relationship with them is an employer and servant. Interesting! Pilate entered the praetorium again and called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?" Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me; what have you done?" Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world." Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice." Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again, and told them, "I find no crime in him. But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover; will you have me release for you the King of the Jews?" They cried out again, "Not this man, but Barab'bas!" Now Barab'bas was a robber.
